Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Online journalism has emerged as a transformative medium, breaking traditional barriers to information dissemination and fostering innovation. In Lokoja LGA, Kogi State, online journalism plays a critical role in promoting youth entrepreneurship by providing accessible platforms for sharing success stories, disseminating information on funding opportunities, and offering educational content. Websites, blogs, and social media channels dedicated to business and entrepreneurship have empowered young people to explore innovative ideas and build sustainable enterprises (Abubakar & Danladi, 2024). By highlighting success stories and sharing expert advice, online journalism creates an enabling environment that inspires and informs young entrepreneurs, contributing to economic growth and social development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing influence of online journalism, its potential to promote youth entrepreneurship in Lokoja LGA is underutilized. Issues such as digital illiteracy, limited internet access, and a lack of credible online platforms hinder its effectiveness. Additionally, there is insufficient research on how online journalism directly influences youth entrepreneurship in the region. This study seeks to address these gaps by exploring the role of online journalism in promoting entrepreneurial activities among youths in Lokoja LGA.
